The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea is the official government department responsible for the supervision of food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and cosmetics in South Korea. Formerly known as the Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA), it was founded in 1996 and restructured in 2013, when it was renamed and upgraded to a ministry. The official website of the department provides comprehensive supervision information, policies and regulations, product approval information and other services, covering all links of food and drug safety supervision. Its core responsibilities include the registration and approval of food, drugs and medical devices, post-marketing supervision, quality management (GMP/KGMP), import and export management, etc. It has established a hierarchical and classified designated system for innovative medical devices to ensure the rapid transformation and listing of innovative products. At the same time, the department is also responsible for adverse event monitoring and recall management, establishing a sound risk prevention and control system, and is committed to ensuring the safety of national food and drug use and promoting the healthy and orderly development of the food and drug industry.
