The Korean Film Archive (KOFA) is the only nationwide film archive in South Korea. Founded in Seoul in 1974, it is affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea and is a non - profit organization. Its main responsibilities include film collection and classification, film preservation, restoration, film digitization, film screening, etc., committed to protecting South Korean film heritage and inheriting film culture. Most of South Korea's film originals and copies are kept in this archive. At the same time, it also provides reference access services, including the publication of academic resources, the operation of online film databases, and the retrieval of South Korean film resources, providing professional support for film researchers and lovers. In 1976, the archive joined the International Federation of Film Archives and obtained official membership in 1985, which has important influence in the global film archive field and is the core institution for the inheritance of South Korean film culture.
